Phew! I've just been watching BBC2s "Show me the Monet" programme where emerging and established artists try to get their work accepted for a London exhibition. At one level, its really interesting to get a bit of an insight into the judging process. (But of course I remind myself that its a TV programme; highly edited and with the prime purpose of being entertaining.) At another level its painful to watch...... some of the critique comes across as very harsh and must be really damaging to the artists concerned. In that way I suppose its no different to a lot of other shows where people feel they've got talent are waiting to be recognised. However, surely nobody deserves to be publicly humiliated for the entertainment of others?
Will I continue to watch the series? Yes, but not without some serious reservations
